As up-cycling is fundamental to our company, we set out to design and create products that are functional, beautiful and simple. However, we first must find inspiration from the materials that come our way. When we realised that coffee roasters throw out dozens of burlap sacks a day, we came up with the idea for our coffee sack wall art. The idea that was the impetus for Hardwood Design House

All of our items and ideas are born in our Toronto studio. Can you remember the last thing you bought that was made in Toronto? We can’t!!

All of our material is locally sourced within southern Ontario. We consider any item headed to the landfill a potential resource for building something practical and beautiful.

With over 20 years of building experience, we have met some awesome people along the way. From tree-cutters in the Hockley Valley, Horse farmers in Uxbridge, ON to coffee roasters in the junction (Toronto). Our network of suppliers is a key ingredient to our sucess

We love crisp clean lines. Whenever possible, we do our best to minimize our design and let our materials do the talking for us. Our philosophy is to put the wood first. Show off the beauty that nature has already created for us. For this reason, never ask us to stain a piece of wood. If you want something darker, choose a different type of wood!

Our products are finished with either a food-safe oil/wax finish (for our cutting boards, charcuterie boards), or a tougher, more durable hard-wax/oil finish (Rubio Monocoat)
Both finishes are sustainable and 0% VOC.
